Since 2003, Outset Contemporary Art Fund has put collectively-funded expert-led philanthropy to work where it can make a difference.
Outset Partners is the flagship annual Fund, continuing the charity’s long and extraordinary history of funding ambitious projects from grassroots initiatives to major international institutions. Our funds establish new models of philanthropy that inspire donors around the world.
We were the first independent patrons’ collective to fund institutions across the arts ecosystem. More than two decades later, over 250 individuals have contributed to this model.
Our funding is always curator- and institution-led, drawing on the expertise of those working within the sector to direct support where it can have the greatest impact.

Outset Contemporary Art Fund is a registered UK charity governed by a Board of Trustees, who are responsible for ensuring that the charity is managed in accordance with its Articles of Association and Charity Commission guidelines. No individual trustee donates more than 5% of annual turnover.

Outset Contemporary Art Fund was founded by Candida Gertler OBE and Yana Peel in 2003 and was co-directed by the two trustees until Yana Peel resigned in 2012. Candida Gertler resigned in 2024.
